The matter of two Greek army officers who were captured while on patrol and imprisoned in a Turkish prison over a month ago, will be discussed today by a plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

No charges have yet been filed against the two Greeks.

Federica Mogherini, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, will attend the session.

The MEPs will discuss what steps may be taken to free the two Greek officers, and a related resolution on procedures to be followed is expected to be passed on 19 April.

The issue was placed on the agenda by the conservative European People’s Party and the Party of the European Left.

The debate will cover the broader problem of massive human rights violations in Turkey and wholesale violations of the rule of law.
