The suspended Ministry of Finances cleaners, who were recently vindicated by the courts, have gathered outside PASOK’s central officer and demand a meeting with party president and Government VP Evangelos Venizelos.

The protesters have consistently argued against their suspension and demand that the Ministry of Finances complies with the court ruling which states that the cleaners must be rehired as their suspension was deemed unconstitutional.

The Finance Ministry refused to comply with the court order, fearing that it would set a precedent by opening the floodgates for further public sector employees to challenge their suspension and ultimately jeopardizing the government’s ambitious suspension plans.

The Ministry’s appeal, however, has been rejected and the State submitted an application to suspend ad quash the court order, which will be discussed on the 10th of June.

Municipal police officers outside Ministry of Administrative Reform

Meanwhile, representatives of the 226 municipal police officers who were dismissed after their suspension period ended are protesting outside the Ministry of Administrative Reform. The protesters argue that an age criteria (under 50s only) for reappointment in the public sector was unfair and that there are 189 vacant posts in the sector.
