The appeal launched by the former mayor of Thessaloniki Vasilis Papageorgopoulos, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the embezzlement of 17.9 million euros of municipal funds, continues today.

Mr. Papageorgopoulos has consistently denied all of charges while maintaining his innocence. The former municipal treasurer Panagiotis Saxonis, the former general secretary Michalis Lemousias and Mr. Papageorgopoulos will testify in court today. The three have been handed life sentences.

Two former directors of the municipality’s treasury, who were sentenced to 10 and 15 years each, will also appear in court today to conclude the testimonies scheduled for the day.
