The United Nations’ High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, issued an urgent plea to the Greek government to transfer refugees trapped in camps on the Aegean islands to the mainland.

The plea, which appeared on Grandi’s twitter account, was just the latest warning bell from internationals regarding the atrocious conditions in the camps.

“Conditions on the Greek islands are getting worse with winter, making life miserable for thousands of stranded refugees and migrants. More transfers to the mainland are urgently needed,” the tweet read.
