The first clash in Parliament between Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and the leader of the main opposition Kyriakos Mitsotakis will take place on Tuesday over the critical pension reform.
Although the pension system will be the main subject, the debate in Parliament is expected to cover current affairs, while New Democracy is expected to bring up the recent allegations by former Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis. Mr. Mitsotakis holds the Prime Minister responsible and as such will, at some point, demand that a Inquiry Commission be set up to investigate.
Regarding the pension reform, New Democracy will present its own alternative plan, which will includes maintaining three separate pension funds (for employees, self-employed and farmers), rather than merging them all into one.
Overall, the new leader of the conservative party will attempt to leave his mark in Parliament and convey the notion that he will counter SYRIZA, which he claims personified the ‘old Greece’ that is stuck in the past.
