The Independent Greeks (ANEL) suffered a significant setback in the Sunday elections, with the populist right-wing party’s rating plummeting to 3.44%, from 7.51% in the June 2012 elections.

ANEL MP Elena Kountoura argued that many of the party’s voters decided to support the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party instead, while MP Mika Iatridi noted that the party must discuss the reasons of the result.

Party leader Panos Kammenos is expected to comment on the outcome of the elections later, when there is a clearer view of the results.
