Greece has won the gold medal in men’s quad lightweight rowing (LM4x) at the 2013 World Rowing Championships that are taking place in Chungju in South Korea. The team was comprised of Giorgos Konsolas, Spyros Giannaros, Panagiotis Magdanis and Eleftherios Konsolas and finished first, ahead of the German team, with a time of 6:03.44.

Katerina Nikolaidou came second in the women’s singles lightweight rowing (LW1x) finals, with a time of 7:53.23, despite a shaky start which saw her trail in fourth position for the first 500 meters of the race. Nikolaidou managed a spectacular comeback, coming in behind Austrian Michaela Taupe-Traer and above Ruth Walczak representing Great Britain.

Conversely, Nikos Afentoulis was competing in the men’s singles lightweight rowing (LM1x) and ranked overall 14th with a time of 7:07.50. On Saturday Panagiotis Magdanis and Spyros Giannaros will compete in men’s double lightweight rowing (LM2x) finals.
