Greek Vlachs organize 30th national gathering in Metsovo

The Panhellenic Federation of Vlach Cultural Associations (POPSV) has organized the 30^th annual national gathering of Vlachs in Metsovo.

The celebrations of Vlach heritage are set to begin on Friday the 27^th of June and will end on Sunday, the 29^th of June. Aside from the many music and dance events planned, the organizers have scheduled a football match with the local team from Metsovo, AO Amerou.

The organizers will also broadcast the gathering’s celebrations online via a live video stream for the first time. A full schedule of the gathering’s events (in Greek) is available online.

According to POPSV president Michalis Magirias, the gathering is not about “the oversimplifying, folkloric dabbling in vague memories of the past […] but to be creative and productive, so that it is made clear that traditions are not static”.

Mr. Magirias told To Vima that about 12,000 people are expected to attend the celebrations and will have the opportunity to experience the rich cultural heritage of the various Greek Vlach groups.
