The mayors of Athens and Thessaloniki, Giorgos Kaminis and Yannis Boutaris respectively, have expressed their support of introducing provisions for the spatial planning of cremation sites in Greece.
The two mayors argue that the relevant provisions for the placement of crematoria on cemetery grounds and the legal permits for the cremation equipment must be included in the bill submitted by the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change.
Additionally, Kaminis and Boutaris expressed their surprise at how “invisible forces” are preventing the implementation of the legislation and stress that Greece must respect essential human rights.
