The Appeal Council of Athens has approved the application for release from detention of businessman Lavrentis Lavrentiadis on a 500,000 euro bail.

Mr. Lavrentiadis, who is implicated in a banking and loan scandal involving the Proton Bank, claimed to suffer from serious health problems, which resulted in him being treated at the psychiatric ward of the Korydallos prison.

A few days earlier, the Appeal Prosecutor had extended Mr. Lavrentiadis detention period (as the legal 18-month detention period had expired) as he also faces felony charges of instigating the murder of a rival businessman in June 2012.
