A study of GSEE’s Institute of Labor which is published in Ta Nea revealed that about 1,200,000 employees in the private sector receive their wages about 3 to12 months late, while in retail about a third of employees are paid with food coupons or in kind

The situation in the private sector is even more dramatic for people under age of 25, with documented cases of daily wages of 2.25 euros, while about 1,000,000 employees have not received any holiday benefits.

GSEE’s study also shows that an increasing number of employers pay out 100 to 200 euros in lieu of full wages, claiming to pay the rest at some point in the future.

Most of these extensive labor law violations were noted in the sectors of tourism, security and housekeeping services.
