A forest fire that broke out in the remote are of Armenistis, which is located in the municipality of Sithonia in Halkidiki, has been set under control by the Fire Brigade.
A significant number of firefighters have remained on site though, as they fear the possibility of the forest fire rekindling. The Fire Brigade committed 2 Canadair aircraft, 20 vehicles and about 80 firefighters to extinguish the fire. The firefighters were assisted by volunteers.
The fire was likely caused by lighting and did not threatened the nearby camping site or residential area. About 700 acres of forest land were destroyed by the fire.
