The newly-appointed Minister of Education Andreas Loverdos has seemingly vowed to overturn many of the policies implemented by his predecessor Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos.

While Mr. Arvanitopoulos had initially planned for schools to reopen on the 5th of September, Mr. Loverdos changed the date to September 11th. The Minister explained that teacher transfers have not been complete and noted that unlike other EU members, Greece does not have a formalized winter holiday period.

The new Minister had fundamental disagreements with his predecessor’s efforts and refused to sign a decree abolishing two school holidays, while vowing to reexamine the much-touted test subject bank, for which there were many complaints.
