A 26-year-old Pakistani national was arrested in Ierapetra, after he killed a 54-year-old compatriot of his with a meat cleaver and injured another 50-year-old Greek man on Saturday evening.

According to a report by local news portal Cretalive.gr, the 26-year-old assaulted his 54-year-old compatriot with a meat claver. It appears that the two Pakistani men had financial differences. Prior to his rampage with a meat cleaver, the 26-year-old attempted to rape a 40-year-old woman.

Reports then suggest the he then sought out the 50-year-old pastry-shop owner, who was in a nearby taverna with his family. The 26-year-old did not hesitate to attack the man in front of his wife and daughter. It is said the he also had financial grievances with the 50-year-old. The 26-year-old’s rampage ended when he decided to assault a police vehicle and was subdued by police officers.

The 50-year-old victim was initially rushed to the Ierapetra Medical Center with serious injuries, before being transferred to the “Venizelio” Hospital of Iraklio, where he is treated. The medical examiner reported that the victim received over 20 hits, 15 of which to the chest.

The suspect, who will be taken to testify on Tuesday, faces the charges of intentional homicide, two charges of attempted homicide, one for rape and grievous bodily harm and weapons violations charges.
