The clashes outside the Ministry of Finances between protesting cleaners and riot police resulted in three people being injured, including photo reporter Tatiana Bolari.

The cleaners were demonstrating outside the Finance Ministry on Nikis Street after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Ministry in a controversial legal battle regarding suspensions and dismissals.

Riot police officers who were stationed outside the Ministry were deployed in order to push them away. In the clashes one woman fainted and two more (including Mrs. Bolari) were injured lightly.

An inquiry is to be launched after video footage from the clashes surfaced showing a riot police officer assaulting one of the cleaners, without provocation.

The representative of the cleaners Mrs. Evangelia Alexaki told To Vima that “they will not take our jobs, we will not let them”, and vowed to continue their struggle against their unfair dismissal.

The cleaners were disappointed after the turn of events at the Supreme Court with Mrs. Alexaki commenting that “we are being treated like criminals when all we want is to work to make a living”.
