The 33rd Annual Book Festival of Thessaloniki begins today, Friday the 6th of June and will last until Sunday the 22nd of June. The festival, which is scheduled to take place on the reconstructed seafront promenade, is part of the city’s celebrations as European Youth Capital for 2014.

Over 250 publishers from all over Greece will participate in this year’s festival, with the president of the publisher union of northern Greece Babis Barbounakis commenting that “despite the financial crisis many important books were published in the past year, highlighting the authenticity of books”.

Aside from the publishers, the Thessaloniki Film Festival will also be present with a stand, where the festival-goers will find books and merchandise. The inauguration of the book festival will take place at 8.30pm, with the Minister of Macedonia-Thrace Theodoros Karaoglou being the guest of honor.
