The University of Ioannina will effectively shut down on Thursday and Friday, as the university’s administrative services will not operate and teaching will not take place, in response to the suspension of administrative employees.

The Senate of the University issued a statement condemning the Ministry of Education’s stance and argues that the “conflicting government choices and confusing verbal assurances, a few days before the employee suspension period ends, cause incredible insecurity and uncertainty amongst employees”.

According to the Senate, the suspensions have affected the operation of the university and demands that the government take the necessary actions to rectify the situation.
