The President of the Movement of Democrats Socialists and former Prime Minister Giorgos Papandreou was highly critical of the coalition government, arguing that the latest series of measures approved by Parliament “have bound us on every detail”.
In a party event in Agrinio, the former PM argued that the right and left are bickering, but nobody is addressing the real problems and what needs to be done. Mr. Papandreou stressed that “I believe there is hope, so long as we learn from mistakes of the past”.
During his speech, Mr. Papandreou referred to his tenure as Prime Minister and noted how he asked for a national consensus “in the most critical moment”, but instead he was shot down. He further explained that political forces in Cyprus, Portugal and Ireland cooperated and thus managed to overcome their problems.
According to the former Prime Minister, between 2009 and 20011 many reforms were carried out by “violently interrupted” and claimed that “since then and up to now, nothing has happened”. He concluded his speech by underlining the need for consensus and dialog.
