The implementation of the much-debated agreement between the European Union and Turkey began on Monday, with the first group of migrants being returned to Dikili. A total of 66 left for Turkey, while about 400 migrants and refugees reportedly arrived on Chios.

Operations which were scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday have been postponed, since 100 of those who were meant to be returned from Chios are reportedly missing. The police authorities on the island are currently searching for them.

Many migrants and refugees have left the island’s hotspot and have set up camp on the port, making it difficult for authorities to identify those who are to be returned to Turkey. As such, it has been decided to clear out the port.
