Turkish authorities have reportedly objected to the search and rescue operation launched by the Hellenic Navy, after a Super Puma helicopter went missing during a military exercise.

Greek authorities issued a NOTAM (A0285/16) regarding the search operation, to which Turkish authorities responded with another NOTAM (A0701/16), claiming that it will “not accept the definition of the search and rescue (SAR) area with reference to Athens FIR”.

Furthermore, the Turkish authorities note that they have the means and capabilities to conduct SR operations in what they claim to be their maritime search and rescue region (SRR) and as such, any operations must be coordinated with them.
