In light of the significant opposition to its ambitious pension system reform, the government is examining the possibility of introducing a series of improvements to its draft proposal.

The Minister of Labor Giorgos Katrougalos has announced that he is open to recommendations, with experts expected to submit their proposals on Monday.

Among the changes considered by the government are lowering the contributions of young scientists and impose a cap on the maximum amount insurance contributions and taxes may amount to (up to 55% or 60% of net wages).

Regarding farmers who pay low insurance contributions, the plan is to link them with income and then gradually rise what farmers currently pay towards pensions so that by 2019 20% goes towards pensions.
