The nationwide coordination committee of farmers decided upon a series of strike actions until the 20th of January in response to the government introducing changes to their taxation and pensions, while issuing a call to other farmers to join their actions.

Over 500 farmers and producers, from Evros to Crete, gathered in Thessaloniki on Thursday and debated their options and course of action. They agreed to begin setting up road blocks with tractors at various in critical areas in order to cause a “black out” on the 20th of January.

Road blocks are expected to be set up at the Kerdyllia junction on the Egnatia Odos, in Kavala, the customs offices at Kipi and Promachonas, at Kastro in Viotia, in Nikea and Tempi. Fishermen have also agreed to sail their ship in the ports of Volos and Michaniona in Thessaloniki.

Finally, the committee decided to organize a major rally and demonstration on the opening day of the Agrotica international fair on the 28th of January. They are also planning to carry out actions in Athens.
