The head of the River Stavros Theodorakis was highly critical of the SYRIZA/Independent Greeks coalition government and the main opposition party New Democracy, accusing them of “agreeing on the basics”, in an interview on SKAI. Mr. Theodorakis claimed that his party is the only one that has only spoken the truth so far and underlined “the need for a new player on the table”.
Regarding the third bailout with the country’s international creditors and the accompanying measures, the political leader estimated that his party could do better than the Tsipras agreement and that he wanted to avoid closing the banks. Mr. Theodorakis estimated that the people have suffered from the capital controls and accused SYRIZA of “foolishness” when accusing him of “caring about the bankers”.
Nevertheless, Mr. Theodorakis stressed that the new bailout agreement must be implemented; otherwise a fourth bailout agreement may soon be on the table. He also criticized Alexis Tsipras, explaining that “it was one thing to say you are going to improve aspects [of the bailout] and another to say that you will not implement it”. According to the River leader, Greece is bound by the bailout and repeated his proposal of forming groups of experts would make “surgical interventions” in the agreement.
