The General Secretary of Public Revenue Giorgos Pitsilis underlined that the tax services will not do “any favors or wrong anyone” from the stand of the 8th Tax Forum.
Mr. Pitsils announced the creation of permanent groups that will carry out targeted tax inspections on a 24-hour basis and noted that the penalties for certain violations – such as temporarily shutting down a business – may be revised to be appropriate. As he explained, the intensification of inspections resulted in an increase of revenue.
According to the General Secretary, the aim is to support the tax system and tackle tax evasion, avoidance and the underground economy, which stifle growth and perpetuate the anti-social overtaxation.
