A 35-year-old Polish man and a 52-year-old Ukrainian man have been arrested for the gruesome murder of a migrant in the city of center of Athens on Saturday.

The authorities were alerted early on Saturday evening that a man was hung from a tree on Klafthmonos Square, near the Ministry of Interior. The police officers who arrived on scene were unable to locate any documents to identify the victim.

Initially authorities believed this to be a case of suicide; however a witness later informed the police that he saw an altercation between the victim and two other men. The witness alleged that the two other men hung the victim by the tree.

In the investigation that followed the police located the two suspects nearby, in a state of intoxication. Upon arrest, the two suspects claimed that they were simply helping the victim commit suicide. They were later taken to the prosecutor, who has addressed homicide charges against them.
