The Hellenic Center for Disease Control & Prevention (KEELPNO) has banned blood donations in 12 districts due to reported cases of Malaria. According to a statement issued, the four sporadic domestic cases of malaria does not justify the ‘fuss’, arguing that the blood donation ban will eliminate the possibility of the disease spreading via blood transfusions.

KEELPNO also stresses that since 2011-2012 the number of reported cases of malaria has dropped significantly and notes that international healthcare organizations have estimated that no special measures need be taken by anyone visiting Greece. It was also underlined that none of the reported cases of malaria were documented in the refugee and migrant hospitality center.
