Sources from the European Commission have indicated that the mission representatives left Athens at noon in order to be present at the Euro Working Group in Brussels later in the day.

The same sources also note that they will return to Athens within the day in order to continue the negotiations with the Greek government.

This development has raised question, in light of the recent WikiLeaks revelations of the Thomsen-Velculescu talks. The Greek government has attempted to downplay the sudden departure, claiming that it was planned and maintains that the negotiations will conclude over the weekend.
