The head of the River Stavros Theodorakis claimed that his MPs will not be voting for any new taxes, while stressing that he intends to save money by cutting expenses and tackling tax evasion.
Mr. Theodorakis, who spoke to Creta TV, added that there was a serious need to reduce the state and red tape. He argued that Greece has the most general secretariats, which has a major cost due to the high salaries. He also noted that these positions are filled by party officers, depending on who is in power.
Regarding the election campaign, Mr. Theodorakis distinguished a “divisive climate” and expressed his certainty that voters will turn their back on the past. He also argued that “SYRIZA closely resembles New Democracy” and that the possibility of a coalition between the two is “not unlikely”.
The River leader explained that the two SYRIZA and New Democracy “are a lot alike, from how they understand sharing power, to appointing friends and relatives and the old political system in the public sector”.
