The Economic Chamber of Greece (OEE) has announced a series of tax reform “interventions” which aim to improve taxation, correct injustices and distortions as a result of the bailouts and to improve tax administration.

Audit businesses with certified accountants

With the short-staffed tax services being unable to carry out audits, the Chamber proposes the appointment of certified accountants to audit small businesses, under its supervision, in a effort to reduce to back log.

Revise objective real estate taxation values

Despite the collapse of the real estate market the government has consistently refused to reduce the taxable objective values since the onset of the crisis, in an effort to generate tax revenue. The Chamber argues that the values must be revised according to commercial, tourist, social and financial potential.

Revise tax evasion policy

At present, hiding 10,000 euros (60,000 for businesses) from tax services constitutes tax evasion, with the chamber requested that these divs increase.

Certify VAT offset by tax advisors

The Prime Minister announced the VAT offset for businesses with turnovers up to 500,000 euros in an effort to support the market, however the OEE stresses that certified tax advisors must be involved in order expedite processes and to avoid problems.

Extend appeal period in administrative courts

Finally, the OEE proposes the extension of the period for businesses to appeal to administrative courts.
