The coalition government’s defeat in Sunday’s elections have prompted rumors of an extensive cabinet reshuffle, especially after the Prime Minister announced that he has received “the message” sent by voters in the electoral race.

Despite the rumors though, Prime Minister Samaras is not in a rush to carry out the reshuffle, with some of his associates pointing out that Mr. Samaras does not want to appear to depend on the electoral result, while others point out that with the Greek presidency of the EU scheduled to end in June there is little room for maneuvers.

The decision for a cabinet has also been strongly supported by Mr. Samaras’ coalition partner Evangelos Venizelos, who after the Olive Tree’s rather unexpected performance in the European elections has called for a reevaluation of the agreement.

One of the biggest mysteries in the cabinet reshuffle is the fate of the current Minister of Finances Yannis Stournaras, who appears to have recently complained about the criticism brought against him, especially from within the government, and is even considering resigning.

Mr. Stournaras has been rumored to be reappointed as Governor of the Bank of Greece, after the term of current Governor Giorgos Provopoulos ends in June.
