The Tongo-flagged Trader cargo ship is being inspected in Souda, after it was located west of Crete carrying a shipment of weapons and ammunition.

Reports suggest that the cargo ship was carrying about six containers with weapons and ammunition. Greek authorities have so discovered hunting riffles in one of the containers that have been opened.

The Coast Guard has also noted that customs checks are being carried out, since documents regarding the shipment were recovered on board. The ship interior will also be inspected.

Greek authorities are also concerned about the cargo ship’s journey and final destination, since its initial course was from Mersin, Turkey to Lebanon, yet it was discovered west of Crete.
