Although the Minister of Labor and Social Insurance Giorgos Katrougalos has vehemently denied the possibility of main pension cuts, a report in Ta Nea suggests that a special ‘contribution’ for current pensions is considered.

According to the newspaper report, the Ministry is considering introducing a special contribution that will affect retirees who receive a pension over 1,300 euros. Details have not yet been determined, as Greek authorities continue negotiations on the critical pension system reform with the institutions.

A senior government official told To Vima that although no agreement has been reached with the institutions, both sides are ‘close’ and that ‘certain parametric changes’ will take.

This ‘parametric’ changes reportedly involve further reductions of supplementary pensions as well as further reducing the caps on the maximum payable main pension (currently 2,700 euros) and for multiple pensions (currently 3,000 euros).

In a statement to the Athens-Macedonia News Agency on Friday, the Minister of Labor has rejected the rumors and commented that there are no considerations for such a contribution.
