The slackness and lack of coordination emanating from the government obviously do not reflect the current circumstances or the country’s needs. Both on the domestic front and in the negotiations with our partners it seems like the situation is not under the control by any authority.
On the one hand we have ministers and institutional officers who state what they want and what they think benefits their political clientele, thus coming to a direct conflict with the country’s interests. At a time when the government is meant to be negotiating a deal, the Minister of National Defense and main government partner threatens our interlocutors that we will export… jihadists. Another hopeful minister thinks it is compatible to not pay the IMF installment, but not discuss it with Mrs. Lagarde. The Finance Minister is rushing to the IMF for some patience, stating that there is no issue with the payment, which we will pay ad infinitum, while at the same time the President of Parliament is organizing a whole propaganda mechanism on how to no pay the burdensome debt…
On the other hand, on the domestic front, a few dozens or hundreds of anarchists are free to vandalize the walls outside parliament and then move on to the Polytechnic and Exarchia, threatening and burning away. The police are observing from a distance, awaiting orders from higher up that get lost on the way.
It is clear that there is a weakness in understanding the situation and roles. Some ministers have not yet understood that they are not in the opposition anymore, where they can say whatever they want without consequence and other have not yet realized that they cannot ignore their obligations which they have undertaken after rising the power.
Neither the country’s major problems, nor the social problems that emerge on a daily basis can wait for the government officers to mature and finally assume their responsibilities. The window of opportunity for the Prime Minister and his government is closing and they must act decisively and according to plan, before it is too late; for the government but primarily for the country.
