The latest developments in the negotiations between the Greek government and the representatives of the European institutions suggest that after the deadlock of the past few days, there might be light at the end of the tunnel. Mr. Varoufakis confirmed his optimism of reaching a deal at the Eurogroup yesterday when he stated that “the application will be submitted and written in such a way so that it covers the Greek side and the Eurogroup president”.
Clearly there is no more room for delays, for a further prolongation of the talks. The mutual compromise between both sides is urgent. The economy, the banking system, the agonizing people cannot endure the continuation of uncertainty. The conflicts and political clashes of the past few days must give way to coordination, to achieving a solution that will allow Greece to continue on its difficult path of recovery, as well as allow our partners to realize that its is not Europe’s interests at stake.
Greece can and must remain at the core of Europe and within the Eurozone. After all the hardship and conflicts, this prospect is necessary choice which the overwhelming majority of Greek people accept. The Europeans however must also understand that this path must lead to a certain destinations, which can be none other than economic growth and tackling the serious problems generated by the crisis.
Therefore it is imperative that the negotiations and disagreements end by tomorrow night. It is the only way for the country to return to normalcy, to stimulate financial activities and for the government to demonstrate, as it has promised, that it can push matters forward in order to bring a true end to the crisis.
