Everything suggests that were a one step before an agreement between Greece and Europe. The agreement between Mr. Tsipras and Mr. Dijsselbloem to continue talks on a technical level, so that the ground is ready for Monday’s Eurogroup, where the negotiations will conclude, shows that a compromise is at the games.
Obviously there will be mutual concessions, as the discussions so far have shown that the 70-30 ratio of commitments that we have assumed will be the basis. The goal will be to state which commitments we accept and which ones the government believes must be replaced.
The agreement, if reached by Monday as expected, is an important step towards ending the uncertainty that shook the country and the economy in the past few months. The government will have the time it was striving for in order to implement its policy and demonstrate in practice that it can reconstruct the economy and give society the breathing space it demands.
The time that was lost must be replenished as soon as possible. The paralysis of the State mechanism in the past few months obviously cannot carry on. The planned changes must be completed in the shortest possible time, the ministers and government officers must roll up their sleeves so that the country and the economy can start moving once again.
The people have high expectations, based on what the government promised and the support it received during the negotiations. The government has not room to disprove them.
