The majority of the people (70%) are in favor of proportional representation without any bonuses, but the majority (71.5%) are also against giving voting rights to 17-year-olds, claims a survey carried out by diaNEOsis.
Asked if the first party should receive any seat bonuses in Parliament, about 70% of respondents opposed the idea, while only 25% supported it.
Regarding voting rights of 17 year olds, about 71.5% of respondents are against it and 25% support it. Even SYRIZA voters though are not convinced with 60% opposing it and 35% being in favor. In the case of New Democracy voters, 89% oppose the measure and only 9% agree. On the contrary, the survey showed that 74.5% agreed with giving voting rights to expatriates, while 21.5% rejected such an idea.
As for participation in the elections, 46% argues that it is important as it determines the country’s future, while 40.% claimed they were indifferent, since foreign powers decide what happens. About 13% of respondents commented that there is some importance, but not that great.
In relation to referendums, 55.5% believe that using them will make the political system more democratic, compared to 25% who believe that the system will become less democratic and 16.% who do not believe it will make much of a difference.
Finally, asked if legislation should be introduced to make the four-year terms of government compulsory, 50% disagreed, while 45% agreed.
