The President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos, who will travel to Holland on Monday and Tuesday, has argued that confidence in Greece is growing once again, in an interview he gave to Dutch newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad.
In his interview the President underlined that the Greek people have made huge sacrifices and argued that ‘certain aspects’ of the current bailout program must be reviewed and that ‘mistakes’ must be corrected. These mistakes, he further elaborated, are related to direct and indirect taxation, which have recessionary effects.
Asked about the referendum in 2015, where the Greek people rejected the European loan proposal, President Pavlopoulos argued that the referendum was not about whether to remain in the EU and Eurozone. The majority of the Greek people, he explained, are pro-Europe, as is evident by the outcome of the September 2015 elections.
