The Alternate Minister of Finance Tryfon Alexiadis made a statement in Parliament on Friday regarding taxation in Greece which has sparked controversy.
During a debate on the real estate tax (ENFIA) of building societies, Mr. Alexiadis commented that “if I were to entitle the country’s tax history it would be ‘the damage is done – the worst is yet to come’”.
Furthermore, when asked by SYRIZA MP Alexandros Triantafyllidis on taxation controls, the Alternate Minister of Finances in essence claimed that those withwages of 1,500 to 2,000 are ‘high earners’.
Specifically Mr. Alexiadis lashed out against the media “who are agonizing over the cuts in wages of 1,500 and 2,000 euros, but now there are no such wages in the public and private sector” and added “those with high wages must pay”.
“There will be a charge on income for 2016, but the tax will be fair and proportional” he further explained.
