The Minister of Finances Euclid Tsakalotos suggested that major changes would take place in the income taxation, in an effort to increase stability and social justice. According to Mr. Tsakalotos a wide variety of tax rates will go under review, so that the government can collect money from affluent taxpayers.

Earlier, the Alternate Minister of Finances Giorgos Houliarakis noted that there has been some progress on this front, with a number of tax exemptions being reviewed and abolished, in an effort to make the burden-sharing fairer. Mr. Houliarakis also noted that the Finance Ministry has the highest rate (61%) of implementing obligations towards Europe.

Furthermore, he argued that the capital controls are gradually being lifted and the critical recapitalization of Greeks will soon take place. Mr. Houliarakis also noted that there was a smaller rate of recession than expected, which must still be addressed.

Mr. Tsakalotos concluded that his goal as Finance Minister is to provide other Ministries with the “time and space” in order to carry out radical changes and reforms in the public sector, education, healthcare and corruption.
