A meeting was held on Wednesday between the tax administration officers and a delegation from the institutions – the IMF, EU, ECB and EMS – in order to discuss reforming the fines and penalties contained in the Code of Tax Procedures.

Reportedly the discussion focused on introducing more “realistic” fines to improve collection, as well as harsher penal sanctions designed to curb tax evasion. Also being considered is raising the fines for not issuing receipts, but it has not yet been agreed with the institutions.

Meanwhile, the General Secretariat of Public Revenue has expressed is concern that will finds are being imposed by SDOE, few of them are being collected, meaning that the debts towards continue to grow. As such, the secretariat wants to minimize the fines for late payment within legal period.
