The Police announced the arrest of two men, a 55-year-old and 48-year-old, on human trafficking charges. The two men were arrested on Thursday afternoon in Iraklio, Crete while transporting 99 migrants. According to the police, the 67 men, 10 women and 22 children were being transferred to other European countries.
The Police Subdirectory of Iraklio was cooperating with the Port Authority of Iraklio on a joint operation at the time of the arrest. The operation was launched when it was reported that 50 migrants got on aboard a truck. The truck headed north, where it met up with another truck that was carrying 49 migrants, before being stopped by the police.
The two truck drivers were arrested after they had allowed the migrants to disembark from the trucks. A police operation was later launched to locate the 99 migrants, who reportedly came Afghanistan, Egypt, Syria and Bangladesh.
