The explosive clash between the government and opposition and the daily battles taking place in Parliament indicate that the political scene is caught up in an election campaign fever.

The upcoming European and local elections clearly suggest that a huge conflict is imminent, a polarization with divisive characteristics that can destabilize the country. While negotiations with the troika are still going on, many issues still no yet resolved in order to collect a critical installment and the economy currently being on at a crucial turning point, it is obvious that a long and arduous election campaign will not solve any problems in this country or help any of the people in suffering.

On the contrary, a polarizing confrontation like the one unfolding before us will increase political uncertainty and create a climate of insecurity and instability, which can have unforeseen consequences on the economy.

At a time where the economy and the country at large need stability, consistency and above all an effective state mechanism, a climate of paralysis and introversion tends to dominate, subverting all the efforts and sacrifices we made so that we can finally see an exit to this tunnel.

The government and opposition ought to realize that rallying party members and supports should not be a priority, but rather the national goal of restoring the country and productivity, through a decisive negotiation with our creditors over our debt.

The accusations and threats are for show, they can be postponed for later. There is enough time ahead of us for confrontation in the European election, to convince the people of the validity of their opinions and promises. We do not need to disorganize the country prematurely, simply because some insist on putting political or personal gain ahead of the country’s interest.
