The truck driver federation OFAE has threatened to mobilize for a strike, if the government does not begin carrying out inspections of trucks from foreign countries entering the country, in accordance with the relevant legislation.
The federation argues that the government is not taking any effective measures against foreign truck drivers who do not comply with established weight regulations. As a result, this phenomenon has made working conditions worse and contributed to 60% unemployment rate in the sector.
To that end, OFAE argues that if the government does not take any measures to curb this sort of behavior, it has committed to blocking entrance to Greece at the border, to carry out inspections itself. The federation has also arranged to meet with political parties and relevant social bodies to discuss possible solutions to the problem.
