According to the decree of the Council of Appeals, former Minister of National Defense Akis Tsohatzopoulos will be tried on charges of money laundering. Mr. Tsohatzopoulos is the main defendant, with the prosecutors having decided to include a further 18 people in the case.

Amongst those charged are his current wife Vicky Stamati, his former wife Gudrun Tsohatzopoulou, his daughter Areti Tsohatzopoulou and former general secretary of armaments Giannis Sbokos. The decree also dropped charges of forming a gang, for all defendants.

Ekaterini Stamati, the aunt of Mr. Tsohatzopoulos’ current wife and Eftichios Atsopardis, representative of oversees firm “Bluebell” have both been absolved of charges, due to lack of evidence. The appeal prosecutor had previously submitted a similar proposal for Mr. Atsopardis.

The decree also states that Mr. Tsohatzopoulos and his former wife Gudrun Tsohatzopoulou shall not be charged for money laundering in 1997 in relation to a real estate purchase.
