“The economy must serve man” and not the other away around, underlined the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos, during his recent meeting with former President of Israel Shimon Peres.
During the meeting, the Greek President underlined the need to bring an end to the conflicts in the Middle East, particularly Iraq and Syria, while stressing how the so-called Islamic State is committing crimes against humanity.
President Pavlopoulos praised the contribution of Peres in establishing the State of Israel under such hard circumstances, from a series of appointments as Minister, Prime Minister and President. He also commented on his efforts for peaceful coexistence with other people in the region, particularly the Palestinians. Peres received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 along with Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat.
On his behalf, the former Israeli President referred to the historic ties between Greece and Israel and stressed that peace demands leaving the past behind, in order to enter a new era and world.
Mr. Peres also commented how Democracy has changed and that aside from being equal every person must also have the right to be different. The former President concluded by expressing his confidence that Greece has the ability to enter a new period, of growth and development.
