The train on the 601 service from Thessaloniki to Athens was derailed shortly before 3am on Thursday, as it was approaching the station at Lianokladi of Fthiotida. None of the 450 passengers reported any injuries after four of the train’s eleven cars went off track.

Ambulances, police and the fire brigade rushed out to the scene, while TRAINOSE, OSE and EESSTY crews were called out to repair the tracks and train. The passengers boarded other trains and busses to arrive at their destinations.

Officials noted that normal train services were expected to resume at 8am on Thursday. An investigation has been launched into determining what caused to train to go off the tracks.
