The Alternate Minister of Finance Tryfon Alexiadis is reportedly preparing to submit an amendment that will allow car owners to pay part of the annual road tax, in order to use their vehicles for a few months.

Ever since the financial crisis hit Greece, car owners have been immobilizing their vehicles by handing over their license plates, to avoid paying the ever-increasing road tax and luxury tax. This has had an impact on public revenue.

According to the rumored amendment, a car owner will be able to reclaim his or her license plates for a month, by paying two months of the annual road tax. To use a car for three months, the owner will have to pay four months worth of road tax.

Finally, should the owner want to use the vehicle for the remainder of the year, the owner will be liable for the remaining months, plus an additional two months.
