The President of the Parliamentary Ethics and Transparency Committee Tasia Christodoulopoulou has rejected a request filed by New Democracy and the Democratic Alignment to summon EYP, ADAE and EETT over the WikiLeaks revelations.

According to the opposition parties, it has been suggested in the international press that Greek government services were involved in the leak, which has put a strain on the relationship between Greece, its European creditors and the IMF.

As such, they called for the National Intelligence Agency (EYP), the National Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) and the Authority for Privacy of Communications (ADAE) to provide explanations over the allegations.

Former PASOK president Evangelos Venizelos cited the IMF’s Christine Lagarde, who accused the Greek government over the controversial press leaks and claimed that Greece must demonstrate that the rule of law is observed. New Democracy MP Yannis Tragakis supported Mr. Venizelos and underlined that the National Intelligence Agency must be aware of where, if at all, the controversial discussion was intercepted and tapped.

The request was rejected however as ‘inopportune’, with Mrs. Christodoulopoulou further explaining that an inquiry will be launched, depending on the developments. She further elaborated the committee is currently focused on corruption in judicial affairs.
