The Alternate Minister of National Defense Dimitris Vitsas announced that there are currently a total of 31,842 refugees and migrants in Greece.

Mr. Vitsas told ANT1 that about 90% of them are refugees, while 6,857 are still on the islands and about 1,100 are expected to arrive in Piraeus on Friday.

Regarding the upcoming summit meeting between the EU and Turkey, the Alternate Minister commented that the relocation process must be pushed forward and repeated the Greek government’s position that refugees must be resettled directly from Turkey.

Finally, Mr. Vitsas also underlined that it was unacceptable for the decisions taken at a summit meeting to be reversed by the police directors of five countries.
