We did not need the government’s panic and irritation over the revelation of To Vima in order to understand the authoritarian mentality and totalitarian perceptions prevailing within SYRIZA. We have known how they feel about the Press, freedom of expression and criticism for some time now. Just like their comrades who happened to disagree with the political choices of their leader and his friends.

The injunction of Mr. Pappas truly reflects who they cope with criticism, journalism and reporting. It is a monument of preemptive censorship, which wants to turn journalistic research and criticism into hymns and chants for the government’s pious efforts. Similarly, the selective leaks and threats from the government, in relation to the recent revelations of To Vima, reveal the lies and failed attempt to terrorize those who do not submit to their demands.

The government must not be deluded. Fear and panic offers them bad advice, contrary to those who have struggled for Democracy for decades. Many in the past have attempted to subdue the press, to gag those who did their duty by reveal the under-the-tables dealing, but failed.

Let Mr. Tsipras bead that in mind, who inspired by the worst traditions of the Left, is attempting to dominate the media, by using the state mechanisms and turn them into mouthpieces for his authority.

History has proven that these attempts are doomed to fail. More so when they come from a leader who in the people’s mind is the Prime Minister who deceived and continues to deceive the Greek people to remain in power.
